Eagle with a songbird Etching, 21.6 x 16.1 cm, by Jacques de Fornazeris, 1594 Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam |

A striking contrast in scale and behaviour, pairing a massive eagle with a tiny songbird, presenting a natural hierarchy. The eagle stands firmly on the ground, its head turned back to look over its shoulder, whilst the smaller bird sits safely on a higher branch with an open beak, seemingly calling out or singing. |
