Commemoration Medal Metal and enamel, 4.2 x 3.3 cm, 1946 Private collection |
||||||||||
| This medal commemorates the victory over Japan in the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1945), specifically marking the end of hostilities and the triumph of Chinese resistance forces in Manchuria. Issued in December 1946 by the Northeast Democratic United Army, it is cast in bronze-toned metal with an irregular rectangular shape and a raised flag motif enamelled in red. The relief depicts a soldier in motion, dressed in standard field uniform and carrying a rifle with bayonet. A slung ammunition belt crosses the torso diagonally. Above, a red field serves as backdrop to two large Chinese characters translating to 'victory', flanked by a five-pointed star. This piece is typical of propaganda material produced in the early decades of the People’s Republic of China to honour revolutionary ideals and military success. In Chinese characters, the plain reverse reads: |
