Detail of a royal carriage
Photograph by M. Gax, 2010

Reserved solely for special events, the Baroque-style royal carriage of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico was crafted in Milan by Cesare Scala in 1864.  It is opulently adorned with silver and bronze mouldings, with carved wooden cherubs, and displays the Emperor's arms on the sides.
