Henningsvær Stadion is a
community football field located on a remote rocky islet in the
Lofoten archipelago, Norway. It lies just outside the village of
Henningsvær, a fishing community known for its traditional
cod-drying industry. The field is surrounded by the sea and dramatic
natural scenery, with fish-drying racks spread across the rocky
terrain, reflecting the area’s longstanding reliance on cod fishing.
Despite its rugged setting, the pitch is fully equipped with
artificial turf and floodlights, making it a functional and
well-maintained facility for local use. The stadium was constructed
in the early 2000s as part of a local initiative to provide better
sports facilities for the youth of Henningsvær. It is not designed
for professional matches and lacks spectator stands, but its
location and surroundings have made it notable around the world. The
pitch’s dramatic placement amidst the sea and mountains, along with
its integration into the fishing infrastructure of the island,
symbolises a blend of traditional livelihoods and contemporary
community life in northern Norway.
