| A massive granite monolith rising about 220 metres above the surrounding countryside, El Peñol in Guatapé, Colombia is an outcrop of the Antioquia Batholith formed tens of millions of years ago and composed mainly of quartz, feldspar and mica. Embedded in a natural crack on one side of the rock is a staircase of more than 700 steps that leads to the summit and a layered viewing platform. |
