A small cluster of African violet (Saintpaulia), with a rosette of soft, fuzzy leaves, belongs to the same plant family as gloxinias. It was first recorded in eastern Africa in the 1890s, and an unusual feature is that a single leaf can grow into a complete new plant that is genetically identical to the original.
