Commonly known as the tree
aeonium or tree houseleek, Aeonium arboreum is a succulent native to
the Canary Islands, typically growing to a height of 1–1.5 metres.
It produces small, yellow, star-shaped flowers in clusters, blooming
from late winter to early spring. Thriving in well-drained soil and
full sun, the plant exhibits a unique growth pattern known as 'leaf
wintering.' During colder months, its rosettes often turn red or
purple as a response to reduced light and cooler temperatures. This
colour change helps the plant conserve energy and protect itself
from environmental stress. As the weather warms, the rosettes
usually revert to their original green colour, signalling the
arrival of spring.
