A classic Italian dessert composed of layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cream, finished with a dusting of cocoa powder, tiramisu is frequently traced to the late 1960s. It originated at the restaurant Le Beccherie in Treviso as a sweet restorative whose name translates as 'pick-me-up' and soon became celebrated for its luxurious texture and harmonious flavours.
