The Quadrangle at Hampton Court Palace, also known as Base Court, is
the central courtyard that forms a focal point of the palace's
original Tudor design. Built during the reign of Cardinal Wolsey in
the early 16th century and later expanded by Henry VIII, it
exemplifies the grandeur of Tudor architecture. The quadrangle was
originally surrounded by lodgings for courtiers and visitors, with
its distinctive Great Gatehouse featuring domed turrets and ornate
brickwork. Once the largest courtyard in the palace, Base Court was
designed to impress guests with its scale and opulence.
