| Designed in a neoclassical style by the Italian architect Carlo Zucchi, the Teatro Solis was inaugurated in 1856 and is one of the oldest theatres in South America, standing in Montevideo’s Ciudad Vieja near Plaza Independencia. The pediment features the Sun of May, a national emblem linked to the May Revolution of 1810 and later associated in interpretation with Inti, the sun god of the Inca Empire. |
