| The Mazar, or Sepulchre, of Akhmed Zamchi in Ancient Merv is a funerary monument dedicated to a figure known as Pahlavan, or hero, Akhmed-Zamchi. The structure is located within the vast archaeological site of Ancient Merv on the Murghab River in Turkmenistan, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While information on the specific life and historical context of Akhmed Zamchi himself is not as widely detailed as that of the major Seljuk ruler Sultan Sanjar, the sepulchre is a recognised historical site and an example of the Islamic architectural heritage found at Merv. The complex is generally noted as a religious and funerary complex with distinctive domed architecture and spiritual significance. |
