| San Quirico d'Orcia is a town renowned for its medieval and Renaissance architecture, as well as its strategic position along the ancient Via Francigena pilgrimage route. Key landmarks include the Collegiate Church of San Quirico and the Horti Leonini, a Renaissance garden. Located near the town is the privately owned Chapel of Vitaleta, which dates back to the late 16th century and is dedicated to the Virgin of Vitaleta. This small, rectangular building is constructed from local stone and features a simple facade with a single arched door and a small bell tower. The chapel is situated within the Val d'Orcia Natural Park, an area recognised for its outstanding natural beauty and cultural heritage. It stands along a rural road, surrounded by cypress trees, olive groves, and farmland. It was damaged by an earthquake and redesigned in 1884, before undergoing restoration in 2021. The chapel is accessible by a dirt road and is part of a larger complex that includes a small sanctuary, which has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. | ||||||||||
