Monument to Alvaro Obregón
Enrique Aragón Echeagaray, architect; Ignacio Asúnsolo, sculptor; completed 1935
Parque de la Bombilla, San Ángel, Mexico City

The entrance to the monument of President Álvaro Obregón is marked by a broad stone stairway ascending to imposing steel doors, adorned with heavy ornamental chains. These are flanked by two colossal sculptures representing Fertility and Labour, standing as sentinels at the threshold. Above, the structure narrows in a square plan as it rises, forming a stark, monolithic tapering tower.
