La Boca is a working-class neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, Argentina,
situated near the Riachuelo River. Founded in the late 19th century
by European immigrants, particularly Genoese, the area developed alongside
the city's port activities. Today, La Boca is more known for its brightly
painted houses lining the narrow pedestrian street Caminito, a distinctive
feature attributed to leftover ship paint used by residents. The neighbourhood
holds historical significance for its immigrant past and its role
in the development of Buenos Aires' port. A major landmark in La Boca
is La Bombonera stadium, a magnet for fans of the world-famous Boca
Juniors football club. The Fundación Proa, a modern art museum, offers
a cultural counterpoint to the neighbourhood's historical roots.
