The Templo de San Francisco in Querétaro was the first religious building in the city of Querétaro, with construction beginning between 1550 and 1598, making it the earliest major religious structure in the area. The site was granted to the Franciscans around 1540–1545, and for nearly three centuries, it served as a meeting point between Spanish colonisers and the Indigenous population. The style is a blend of Renaissance and Baroque, with later Neoclassical additions. The temple is renowned for its distinctive domes, with one featuring a vibrant red hue and the other a detailed tiled design. From 1865 to 1922, it served as the city’s cathedral. Today, the former convent houses the Regional Museum of Querétaro, while the temple continues to function as a place of worship.
