Designed by Giovanni Buscaglione, 1926–1938, Bogotá, Colombia
Photograph by M.O.G.G., 2011

Completed in 1938, this neo-Gothic church is dedicated to the Virgin of Carmen, Colombia's patron saint. Notable features include its stained-glass windows by Franz Mayer of Munich, depicting scenes from the Virgin's life and Colombian history, as well as artworks by Mariano Benlliure and Ricardo Acevedo Bernal. The Santuario has witnessed significant historical events, including the assassination of President Jorge Eliécer Gaitán in 1948. It remains a place of devotion and national memory in the heart of Bogotá.
