| Barcelona’s urban plan is defined by its distinctive grid of city blocks, known locally as ‘manzanas’. Dating from the nineteenth century, the scheme consists of square blocks arranged with interior courtyards, providing shared space for residents and improved air circulation. Many of these blocks combine different uses, with housing set alongside shops, cafés and everyday services, sustaining active streets and a settled civic character. |
