| With its large black bill and bare red skin on its face and throat, the southern ground hornbill is native to sub-Saharan Africa and lives mainly in savannas and open woodlands. It feeds on insects, small reptiles, rodents, and other small animals found on the ground. Pairs form long-lasting bonds and raise their young very slowly, often producing only one chick every few years. It can live for several decades, making it one of the longest-living birds in the wild. |
