Known for its luminous green plumage and exceptionally long tail feathers in adult males, the resplendent quetzal is a Central American bird. It inhabits high elevation cloud forests, where it feeds largely on fruit and contributes to forest regeneration through seed dispersal. In Mexico, it holds deep cultural importance, associated with pre-Hispanic societies such as the Maya and Aztecs, who valued its feathers for ceremonial use. The feathers were fashioned into elaborate headdresses, cloaks, and ceremonial regalia, worn during state rituals and religious observances to signal divine sanction, rank, and cosmic order.
