Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock

A male Rupicola rupicola, with its vivid orange plumage and prominent fan-shaped crest. The bird is native to north-eastern South America and is often seen in forest clearings where males display to attract females. The male’s crest is so large and dramatic that, when seen head-on, it obscures his beak from view, giving him the appearance of a glowing orange disc in the rainforest.
