| A Dutch lithographer and draughtsman, Wendel was born in Leiden and was active there from 1840. He executed some portraits, but was particularly renowned for his botanical illustrations, which were noted for their detail and scientific accuracy. He contributed to several important botanical publications in the mid-19th century. His work combined artistic finesse with botanical precision, making it valuable both for scientific study and aesthetic appreciation. Wendel's illustrations were typically drawn from nature, based on direct observation of living specimens, many from Dutch gardens. He died in Leiden. | ||||||||||
