| One of the many birds in the pigeon family Columbidae, order Columbiformes, doves belong to the same group as pigeons, with the two terms used interchangeably in everyday language. Although ‘dove’ often denotes smaller long-tailed species, usage follows tradition and symbolism, as shown by the domestic pigeon, a form of the rock dove, long associated with the ‘dove of peace’. |
