| Carlo
Caliari
(1570–96) Other names: Carletto Biographical Carlo was the younger of Paolo Veronese’s two painter sons. The Venetian painter and art historian Carlo Ridolfi stated that Carlo had been an apprentice to both his father and a certain Bassano, said by some to have been the painter Jacopo Bassano, though this is disputed. Carlo appears to have been the most active member of the family workshop. He completed the paintings left unfinished by his father following Paolo's death in 1588. As a result, it is difficult to distinguish his works from those produced collectively by others due to the involvement of multiple artists in the family workshop, often leading to disagreements among critics about which works can be solely attributed to him. Son of Paolo Veronese and Elena Badile. |
