According to Giacomo Zabarella, Marco I's father was Pietro, a son of Marco Sanudo.[H4]
According to Marino Sanudo Torsello, Marco I's father was Marco Sanudo 'Constantinopoli', counsellor and captain, and ambassador to Constantinople. His other sons were Bernardo, an elector of the doge in 1192, and Lunardo.[H4]
