Burchard de Savoie
Archbishop of Lyon

Positions Held

Bishop of Aosta, 1022-36[1]
Coadjutor of Aosta[1]
Abbot of St Maurice d' Agaune, 1057 and 1067-68?[1]
Provost of St Maurice d' Agaune, 1022? and 1031[1]

Main Events

He left Aosta and apparently went to Lyon to seize power and installed himself as archbishop. He submitted to Conrad II in 1034, but he did not enjoy the emperor's favour, and in 1036, he was captured and imprisoned, losing his archbishopric. The precise reason for his downfall is not certain. He was probably pardoned in 1038.[1]
