television series
Black
Books is a British television comedy series that aired
from 2000 to 2004, created by Dylan Moran and Graham Linehan.
The series follows Bernard Black, a foul tempered and irritable
bookshop owner played by Moran, who runs a small, disorganised
bookshop with little regard for customer service or business
acumen. His life is complicated by the frequent visits of
his friend Fran Katzenjammer, portrayed by Tamsin Greig, who
is equally unconventional and who runs the bric-a-brac shop,
Nifty Gifty, next door, and Manny Bianco, his bumbling
yet good-natured employee played by Bill Bailey. The show
is known for its sharp humour, satirical take on the literary
world, and its exploration of the dynamics between the three
main characters, whose eccentricities and personal failings
create a series of comedic situations. Despite its critical
acclaim and cult following, the show only lasted for three
series and has since been praised for its originality and
the performances of its lead actors. |
