Minerva, goddess of war, education and business
Engraving, by Jan van Vianen, published 1803
In Roman mythology, Minerva is equivalent to the Greek goddess
Athena (Pallas). She is often associated with wisdom, strategic
warfare, arts and crafts, and is one of the twelve Olympian gods and
goddesses. Minerva was also worshipped as a patroness of scholars,
artists, and craftsmen. In Roman mythology, she is often depicted
wearing a helmet and carrying a spear, symbolising her association
with war and strategy, while also being associated with the owl as a
symbol of wisdom.
