| A Flemish painter, miniaturist, stone carver, and medallist, Bernard Rantwyck was active from 1573 to 1596, born in Nijmegen. His exact birth date remains unclear, and details of his life are scarce. Though it is uncertain, he may have worked in London in 1550, and later moved to Italy, where he became a prominent figure in Siena by 1573. There, he worked with notable families, including the Chigi and Piccolomini. Rantwyck is most renowned for his 1611 series The Seven Wonders of the World, commissioned by the Medici family, which remains a defining aspect of his legacy. His career also saw him engaged in Venice in 1577 and Rome in 1596, reflecting his active involvement in the flourishing Italian art world of his time. | ||||||||||
