A.B. Duhamel (1736–after 1800)

Duhamel, born in Paris, was a prominent French engraver known for his portraits and vignettes. He trained under Augustin de Saint-Aubin and was active in Paris from 1736 to 1800. He gained recognition for his contributions to Le Cabinet des Modes, one of the first fashion magazines published in Paris between 1785 and 1793, where his engravings captured the latest fashion trends with vivid detail. His works, such as the etching of Nicolas Lebon, demonstrate his expertise in portraiture and etching techniques. Duhamel’s body of work reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of late Ancien Régime France, and serves as a visual archive of its sartorial and societal transformations on the eve of revolution.
