Black satin corset with yellow lining
Satin, Silk, 26 cm, cotton, embroidery, metal; c. 1900, French or Dutch
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam

The wearer of this corset, Mrs Van Eeghen-du Mée, was a rich fashionable woman from Amsterdam, who, at her death, left behind a very extensive wardrobe with many Parisian models. Unfortunately, it is impossible to determine whether she bought this striking corset in Paris or Amsterdam, due to the lack of a label. But for 'French Corsets' she had been able to contact Hunkemöller Lexis in her hometown since 1889, which had established itself as 'Corsetten-Magazijn' at Leidsestraat 103.
