Chokosai Eisho (fl. 1793–1801) Little is known about Chokosai
Eisho who was an artist of ukiyo-e. He was a pupil of Hosoda Eishi,
considered one of his most talented, and was active during the Kwansei
period. His work was influenced by Eishi, as well as by artists Utamaro
and Torii Kiyonaga. He was a prolific creator of prints of women, and
was particularly noted for his busts of courtesans from the Yoshiwara
district. He sometimes used the name Shoeido. |
