Carnia, a historical and geographical region of the Eastern Alps,
located in the Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It coincides
with the upper basin of the Tagliamento and takes its name from the
Celtic people of the Carni which inhabited the Tagliamento and
Isonzo basin. In 115 BC Carnia was subdued by Rome under the consul
Marcus Aemilius Scaurus.
