| Born in Überlingen, Germany, Brodtmann was a lithographer, illustrator, printer, and publisher. He moved to Zürich in 1817 and established a lithographic press there. From 1820, he ran lithographic businesses and bookshops, producing detailed hand-coloured lithographs that combined scientific accuracy with artistic skill. He was renowned for his illustrations of natural and zoological subjects, as well as historical works, views, and portraits. His illustrations of animals were particularly praised for their detail, accuracy, and beauty. Brodtmann published both his own works and those of other illustrators. He died in Basel. | ||||||||||
