The America's Cup in 1902
The America's Cup trophy, nicknamed the 'Auld Mug', was
commissioned by the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Designed and crafted by the renowned British silversmith Robert Garrard
& Co. in 1848, the trophy was initially named the '100 Guinea Cup', and
was awarded to the yacht America for winning a race around the
Isle of Wight against a fleet of British sailing vessels. It later
became the for the America's Cup sailing competition.
