Now known as the Jardin d'Acclimatation, the Jardin Zoologique d'Acclimatation
was established in 1860 with the purpose of familiarising visitors with
exotic plants and animals while also serving as a venue for cultural
events such as concerts. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries,
it gained popularity for its musical performances and artistic events,
becoming a vibrant social and cultural hub in Paris. This trend of combining
leisure and culture in public spaces was part of a broader movement
in 19th-century Paris. Today, the park continues to thrive as a recreational
and cultural centre, featuring an amusement park with rides for children,
cultural events including concerts and festivals, educational exhibits
on animals and plants, and lush green spaces with walking paths and
dining options, maintaining its historical essence while catering to
modern visitors.
