Modern arms of the city of Florence Argent, a fleur de lis gules
One of the coats of arms on the facade of the Palazzo Vecchio,
Florence. First painted c. 1340. Repainted 1792. The current
paintings are from post 1945.
The arms of Florence were adopted in 1266 after the Guelph victory over the Ghibellines.
They
are the same arms that the Ghibellines had used, but with their colours
inverted.
